Maison Saint-Gabriel

A beautiful hidden gem in Montreal. Maison Saint-Gabriel feels like stepping into another time — peaceful gardens, well-preserved architecture, and fascinating stories of New France. The staff were kind and knowledgeable, and every corner was picture-perfect. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys history, heritage, and a calm escape from the city buzz. My photos don’t even do it justice!

If you're not into history, it is just an old house. However if you appreciate history, then this house will take you back to a center piece of the history of New France and Montreal. ​This isn't just a home; it was a functioning farmstead and a key site run by the Congregation of Notre Dame. Its main historical importance comes from its role in housing some of the 'Filles de Roy' (King's Daughters). These were the young women sent by the King of France in the 1660s-70s to marry settlers and help populate the colony. This house was their first stop, a place to acclimatize and meet potential husbands. ​We had an English spoken tour, the guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and very open to answering questions. Hearing those stories in the building where they actually happened makes history feel very real.

Very good guided tour. It deserves a visit! Nice to see how life was in the past.

Un lieu historique très intéressant. Si vous aimez étudier la vie de nos ancêtres, cet endroit est fait pour vous! Ici, vous pourrez vous promener seul ou avec un guide (visites en anglais et en français). Personnel incroyablement attentif. Il y a une boutique avec des souvenirs. A proximité il y a un parc et un terrain de football.

This was really really cool, I'm so glad I went! The tour was very informative and nice, the inside of the house was wonderfully preserved and curated. As a heads up you can't go inside without a guide, so plan your visit accordingly. However if you're early theres a lovely garden totally worth checking out!
