From the outside, Bloc Shop Chabanel might seem unassuming, but step inside, and you’ll discover a bouldering paradise. The space is massive — large enough to accommodate numerous dozens of climbers without ever feeling crowded. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned pro, Bloc Shop has routes tailored to every skill level. They keep things fresh by regularly updating the routes, sometimes even daily, so there’s always a new challenge to tackle. Not ready to commit to buying gear? No worries — they offer equipment rentals, so you can give climbing a try without investing upfront. And if you decide to dive in, the on-site shop has everything you might need. Beyond the climbing walls, they also have cardio and strength training equipment, making it easy to warm up, cool down, or cross-train to build your climbing fitness. The staff are not only friendly but incredibly knowledgeable, ready to offer advice or help you refine your technique. And if you work up an appetite, they’ve got food and beverages available to keep you fueled. The hours are fantastic, too: open from 8 AM to 11 PM, seven days a week, so you can fit in a climb whenever it suits your schedule. If I could give this place 6 stars, I absolutely would. I wholeheartedly recommend Bloc Shop Chabanel to anyone even remotely curious about bouldering — it’s an exceptional experience from start to finish.

I like the gym, a little bit more compy than I would like but still fun, lots to do as a v7/v8 climber. The coffee does make it a 5/5 experience, the Batista on Monday made me a delicious flat white. This gym does hold a special place in my heart as it is the first time I tried bouldering and was not able to do a single v3 back in 2018. So I like coming back here every year or two for benchmarking 🙂

Perfect places even for beginners like me. I am new for climbing for two months, today is the first time I visit here. 1. Clean. For this size of gym, it’s really amazing that they mange to keep it super clean. 2.Nice staff. I feel welcomed. 3.Reasonable price. I used to go to a much smaller nice gym but they are the same price with here.So I consider this place is not expensive at all. 4.Route settings are fun!first of all, you have the chance to be introduced by different kind of routes or hand holds form V 1-2, for example, they set some sloper route for V2 level which helped me a lot to get familiar with this kind of holds, that didn’t happened in every gym, the one I used to go always put slopers into V3 or above. I felt That I have a good connection with the route setters when I am dealing with the problems, they don’t just randomly throw some jugs on the wall and call it v1-v2. You can feel the effort on every each holds they set. And even for beginners like me can tell a difference! Overall nice place! 5 stars for sure. Only downside is too far away from my place and metro stations

EDIT (April 2025): Bloc Shop reinstated the V-Scale grades. Thank you. Bloc Shop is a great bouldering and training gym in Montreal. The staff is amazing and the culture even better. I really enjoy climbing at Bloc Shop—it’s a fantastic gym with a great atmosphere, team, route setters and problems. However, I do want to share my feedback regarding their recent change from the V-Scale to their own color-based grading system. While I understand the desire to have more balanced grading system, the V-Scale is already a widely recognized system that, despite its imperfections, provides consistency across different gyms. The new system doesn’t necessarily solve existing issues like the difference between V3 and V4 or V5 and V6 which are in two different intervals now, and it makes it harder to gauge progress, celebrate flashes and sends. You had a hybrid approach before, was removing the V-Scale such an issue for the route setters ?

We enjoy climbing here. Everyone is really friendly, respectful, and encouraging. Our son especially loves this location. Highly recommended if you love to Boulder. Routes are changed frequently, offering a constant amount of new challenges and projects to work on. A large variety of guide books for Québec, Canada, USA, and Europe are available. Along with shoes and other gear

Last weekend we visited Montreal and we went to try this bouldering gym. Our experience was pleasant, employees were kind and the routes were great, providing a mix of different styles of boulders. The daily pass was $22. They also have espresso drinks. Definitely recommend to try.

From the 4 boulder gyms I've visited this is the biggest of them. Very clean and has lots of routes and a good variance in difficulty. It's the cleanest gym aswell. Getting there might take some time though. Had a great time.
