absolutely adore this place and have come multiple times and recommend it to everyone, but i feel the need to mention my first visit here... i use vintage skates, and when i got my first pair i brought them in to replace the bearrings and bolts, this was during covid. unfortunetely, vintage skates use bolt sizes that are no longer standardized for modern skates, i did not know this and apparently neither did the shop person who replaced my parts... i took my skates out for a try once i got home, and while i was going downhill, one of my bolts popped right out and then so did my front wheels and i ate shit massively.... i had noticed the bolts were loose but the shopkeeper eased my mind, but now everytime i return i have to make triple sure to inform the shopkeeper that the sizing isnt standard...
I traveled from Québec with my family to visit Lowlife Mtl and try on derby skates. The owner assisted me in choosing the right size of skate and gear and I'm glad I trusted their advice because everything fits me perfectly! My knee pads were a little tight at first, but they said to me it will loosen and it did! Now they fit like a glove! They sure know their products! Also they were very patient and kind and I could never recommend this shop enough! It's a also very beautiful, it's a place you want to hangout in for a while!
Excellent service! I got my custom vans roller skates built by the team at lowlife. They give expert advice and don't try to upsell when it's not necessary. They run amazing events and are very generous with donations to fundraisers and competitions. Shop dogs are a big bonus.
Cheese and Mange are great, very knowledgeable and helpful. I get almost all my gear through Lowlife because of the great service. I have broken skates a few times, sometimes my fault, sometimes the manufacturer, Cheese and Mange have walked me through replacing them several times and helped identify where my issues are.
Hands down THE most helpful skate shop (or any sporting shop) I’ve ever been to. Patient, relaxed, warm and just darn helpful. Audrey, Cheese and the entire LowLifeMtl team are so genuinely passionate and extremely knowledgeable about rollerskating. I bought my first pair of skates with them last summer, I was a total noob but they slowly explained everything to me and let me try on almost every style of skate just so I could feel them under my feet. Since then, I’ve purchased more skates and loads of wheels (socks, pads, jam plugs, laces etc) from them as I’ve increased my skill level and experience. Most recently Cheese helped me explore the right size for a pair of Roll Line Dance plates (short mount) for me and with a pair of custom Jack 1s, they mounted my dream skates with Better Bearing and Luminous Wheels. Audrey made sure to suggest they be short centered mounted and I just can’t wait to try them out!!! Thank you all for helping me fall in love with rollerdance!! I feel so grateful to have this local group of experts.
