The Montreal Museum of Archaeology and History is one of the most fascinating and well-organized museums I’ve visited. It blends history, storytelling, and modern technology in a way that keeps you completely engaged from start to finish. The exhibits take you through the roots of Montreal, with interactive displays, real archaeological artifacts, and multimedia experiences that make the city’s history come alive. The layout is easy to follow, and the information is presented in both French and English, which is great for visitors. The staff are friendly and helpful, and you can tell they care about maintaining the experience for everyone. The building itself is beautiful, located right in Old Montreal with a great view of the waterfront. It’s well worth the $29 admission! You could easily spend a few hours exploring everything without feeling rushed. A must-visit for anyone interested in Montreal’s past or Canadian history in general.
I visited this Museum today and loved it! It’s such a fascinating place, full of well-organized exhibits that really bring the city’s past to life. The museum has several interactive sections where you can explore artifacts, watch immersive projections, and even walk through parts of the old city foundations. I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Montreal who enjoys history!
Pretty interesting museum to checkout at the Old Port. The new and temporary interactive sections were the most fun .. knights, pirates, and the alley-op. Accessible by bus and we didn't need to buy tickets in advance as we visited on a weekday. I can see it could get busy on weekends, so you might want to plan in advance. It is near other attractions at the Old Port, and you can easily spend a few hours here depending on how in-depth you are checking out each exhibit.
We loved the Montreal Museum of Archaeology and History! It’s a unique place to learn how the city evolved — who lived here, what it looked like long ago, and how it all changed. The kids were impressed, especially by the interactive room, scavenger hunt, and fun games. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Don’t miss the top floor — the view over the city and major attractions is amazing! There’s also a nice little café and a great gift shop, don’t forget to check it out.
An engaging and creative view of under Vieux-Port de Montreal. Using all forms of media, you can learn about the history in very clever ways: the architecture, the land, and the people. Having a single focus subject - the Island of Montreal - allowed me to really absorb the information. One of the best museums I've ever been too.
Stunning museum about the history of Montreal. Very cleverly built around and over the archaeological digs, many of which can be seen through glass floors. Interactive displays that bring the history to life and show the development over time. Cafe food good, you will need to book a table at busy times.
